The school years and curriculum
The British National Curriculum;

What is our curriculum and what should parents know about it ?
Sets out the most important knowledge and skills that every child has the right to learn.
Is a framework given to teachers so that children are taught in a way that is balanced and manageable, but hard enough to challenge them.
Gives standards that measure how well children are doing in each subject - so teachers can plan to help them do better.
How does it all work ?

The National Curriculum says when things must be taught by describing broad "Key Stages". These stages are blocks of years;
Foundation Stage covers when your child is aged 3 - 5 years.
Key Stage 1 covers National Curriculum learning when your child is aged 5 - 7 years.
Key Stage 2 covers National Curriculum learning when your child is aged 7 - 11 years.
Key Stage 3 covers National Curriculum learning when your child is aged 11 - 14 years.
Key Stage 4 covers National Curriculum learning when your child is aged 14 - 16 years.
Key Stage 1 lasts two years; KeyStage 2 for four years and Key Stage 3 for three years. We organise teaching in this time as we think is best. We create our own plans term by term and year by year.

In Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 we teach;
English, Maths, Science, German\Italian, Design and Technology, Information and Communication Technology, History, Geography, Art and Design, Music
Physical Education, Personal, Social and health education and Citizenship.
Not every subject is taught in separate lessons. A 'topic' or 'project' approach is frequently used to cover more than one subject.

In Key Stage 4 pupils study a two year course (Syllabus). At the end they sit national examinations, IGCSEs (IGCSE is recognised as evidence of ability by academic institutions and employers around the world). The courses studied are:;
First Language English, English Literature, Mathematics, Combined Science, Information and Communication Technology, History, Geography, Second Language Spanish, Business Studies, Art and Design.

In addition to the examination subjects, pupils complete their general Spanish education and are expected to pass their studies in Lengua (Spanish Language) and Ciencias Sociales, Geografia e Historia (Social Sciences, Geography and History). The curriculum is further enhanced by a number of after-school clubs. These vary thoughout the year and include activities such as Yoga, Gardening Club, Circus Club, Dance club, Drama, Computer Studies, Craftwork, Multisport and Drum Club.
